FAQ

The Taiwan Beverage Alcohol Forum (TBAF) is a social aspect organization founded to promote responsible drinking and to work for the prevention of alcohol misuse. TBAF was established in October 2000 by organizations from the media and industry with the common aim of developing initiatives to tackle alcohol abuse. These founder members recognized the importance of educating the consumer about the responsible consumption of alcohol. Millions of people around the world, from many different cultural backgrounds enjoy alcohol beverages at social gatherings and celebrations, and the vast majority do so responsibly. However, the irresponsible consumption of alcohol by a minority can cause problems for society as a whole.

The objectives of TBAF are;

  • To promote responsible decision-making in the consumption or non consumption of alcohol beverages,
  • To coordinate efforts to promote a responsible drinking environment,
  • To engage in alcohol policy debate in a way which satisfactorily addresses social concerns.

TBAF recognizes both the importance of promoting the benefits of moderate consumption and education in the consequences of alcohol misuse. Independent research indicates that moderate alcohol consumption has positive health benefits for the consumer from middle age onwards. Equally, excessive or inappropriate consumption of alcohol can lead to social problems. TBAF has responded to recent concern around the issue of drink driving in Taiwan, for example, by initiating an anti drink-driving public awareness campaign. TBAF believes that education initiatives stressing the importance of responsible consumption may be the most effective way to prevent alcohol misuse becoming a pressing social concern in Taiwan.
